The site occupies a commanding position over Welshpool and the wider Severn Valley, so something special was needed to allow a housing development to work on this site. From the start, our central idea was that this scheme would have a ‘green heart’, contributing public space to the local community.
The 47 houses are a mix of sizes and layouts, which respond to the steep site with bungalows for elderly people on the lower flat areas and large stepped family houses on the steeper upper reaches. The houses are distinctively modern, but use a palette of materials, which complements the rural edge of Welshpool, creating a warm street scene and living environment.
