Job Vacancy - Planning Consultant
Hughes Architects is continuing to grow, and we are looking to appoint a Planning Consultant to join our expanding, multidisciplinary team.
As an established architectural and planning practice with studios across Mid Wales and the West Midlands, we deliver a diverse and exciting portfolio of projects — from residential and commercial developments to community, education and regeneration schemes. This role offers the chance to take meaningful responsibility within a supportive, collaborative environment where your work will directly shape places and communities across Wales and the borders.
The Role
Working alongside our Directors, architects, technologists and planning specialists, you will contribute across all stages of the planning and development process. You will be involved in a wide range of projects, often complex and high profile, requiring a proactive, solutions focused approach.
You will have the opportunity to work on: • Residential and mixed use developments • Community, education and healthcare projects • Commercial, industrial and employment schemes • Regeneration and town centre initiatives • Rural diversification and tourism proposals • Strategic and major development projects across Wales and the Marches
Key Responsibilities • Preparing, coordinating and managing planning applications, appraisals and supporting documents • Working as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver major and local development projects • Supporting site promotion and Development Plan representations • Liaising with clients, local authorities, consultants and stakeholders • Contributing to project strategy, problem solving and design led planning solutions • Supporting business development and helping to grow the planning function within the practice
Because of the variety of our workload, strong organisational skills and the ability to manage your own time effectively are essential.
About You We are looking for motivated individuals with a clear commitment to planning and placemaking, and an interest in working within a design focused environment. Essential Requirements • RTPI qualification • Strong analytical, report writing and presentation skills • A genuine interest in planning, development and the built environment • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a close knit team • Commercial awareness and confidence engaging with clients
Appointment level will depend on experience.
