Chris Powell-Williams  Structural Engineer

Chris comes from a long line of engineers and is the son of an International Award-Winning Architect, who encouraged his children to develop their own creative skills, which culminated in Chris winning an art scholarship to Epsom College.

From an early age, Chris felt drawn to Structural Engineering as it combines the creative with the technical and makes the most of his attention to detail and his ability to hand sketch. As a natural problem solver, he enjoys coming up with elegant solutions for engineering problems, and looks at every job is seen as unique challenge.

Having moved back to a part of the world he loves and where his family originally came from a few generations ago, Chris is making the most of the beautiful countryside, fly-fishing, sketching and pottering in his joinery workshop, building models or playing D&D when he’s not working.

Chris is an experienced Structural Engineer, who graduated from University College London in 2006, and has worked in a number of well-known London based practices. His formative years were spent working with his father, where they both learnt CAD draughting in the early 1990’s.

As a young graduate Chris specialised in the refurbishment of existing buildings, coupled with some new build commercial work for a premier London based engineering consultancy, where he quickly gained the experience of running jobs whilst doing all the draughting and engineering. Subsequently he has spent over ten years working as a Senior Structural Engineer and CAD Manager for an engineering firm focusing on the domestic and refurbishment market, particularly specialising in conservation engineering, bespoke design, including steelwork, structural glass and other feature elements.

His very first project as a graduate engineer was on a row of eight Grade 2* listed Edwardian town houses in Belgravia, along with the first comprehensive structural survey of the Lord Mayor of London’s State Coach. His other major projects include renovation works of Townhouses in Eaton Place & Kensington Park Mews, London, plus a traditional barn conversion in Sussex, a few more in Mid-Wales, as well as bringing a beautiful Victorian Welsh Farmhouse back to life as a family home.
