Richard Lewis  Director, Architect

Richard was born and brought up in Newtown, Powys and attended Newtown High School, before studying for an architecture degree at De Montfort University in Leicester.

After completing, Richard studied under the influential American architect Stanley Tigerman in Chicago at his Archeworks design school, completing his diploma and professional training at Westminster University in London. Prior to joining Hughes Architects, Richard worked for Oosterhuis.nl in Rotterdam in the Netherlands where he gained experience working on experimental structures, a housing competition in the US and a showroom for a luxury car dealership. Following which, Richard moved back to the UK and worked for Crawford Partnership in London, working mainly on residential projects from high-end domestic extensions and conversions to large-scale housing schemes. In his spare time, Richard is a keen footballer and follower of the ups and downs of Newtown AFC. When he has  the opportunity, Richard tries to spend as much time outdoors in the mountains as possible. The rest of his time is spent trying to explore the far-off corners of Eastern Europe.
