Work starts on Llanidloes’ palliative care unit

It’s great to see work starting on the new Palliative Care Unit at Llanidloes War Memorial Hospital in Powys.

The local community wanted a unit for patients to stay at in the town - close to their homes - during their palliative care.

Our brief was to design an extension that would be be part of the hospital with good access to the medical teams, while maintaining privacy and a sense of wellbeing for the patients.

Our 3D designs show how the unit has a soft feel, with a homely interior, combined with an outdoor area that will be landscaped.

This will ensure patients can feel relaxed during their care rather than in a clinical ward.

SWG Construction are undertaking the building work. The unit should be open early next year.

This is yet another project working with the health and social sector, having worked on similar schemes at Newtown Hospital and the much larger £7.5million Llys Glan-yr-Afon social housing scheme in Newtown, Powys.
