Hughes Architects backs Newtown’s Women’s Rugby Star

A young rugby player from Newtown who has risen through the ranks to the England set-up is being backed by Hughes Architects as England head to the Women’s Rugby World Cup final.

Sarah Parry began her rugby journey with Newtown RFC under-8s, following in the footsteps of her dad and brothers. At under-15s level she moved across the border to join Shrewsbury Rugby Club, where she progressed through the English pathway, representing North Midlands County, Worcester Warriors Centre of Excellence, and then England Under-18s in both 15s and 7s. She captained the Under-18s in the Six Nations.

Hughes Architects is sponsoring Sarah by purchasing her rugby boots. It follows previous support from the practice.

This year Sarah pulled on the England shirt again, representing the Under-20s at the Six Nations, while also making her mark at club level.

After her senior debut at 17 for Worcester Warriors, she joined Harlequins when Worcester went into administration. In her first season at the London club, she earned 20 caps and was named Breakthrough Player of the Season. She has since signed a contract extension with Harlequins and was recently called into the Red Roses World Cup training squad.

However, she wasn't included in the squad playing in the World Cup.

Doug Hughes, Principal Architect and Managing Director of Hughes Architects, said: “Sarah’s story is a fantastic example of what local talent from Mid Wales can achieve. From her first games at Newtown to now being part of the England training squad, it’s an incredible journey. We’re proud to support her in a small way and wish her the very best on the international stage.”

Sarah said: “Having started out at Newtown, it means a lot to have the support of a local business. I’m really grateful to Hughes Architects and I can’t wait to see what the next chapter brings.”
