We were asked by Cadwallader and Co, a leading local accountancy firm to help them expand their main offices in Welshpool. Their current premises, were a fine Georgian town centre building, so we were wary of any alterations or extensions to this building affecting the character and losing the feel of the light and airy office spaces enjoyed by the company.
The company owns a large garden to the rear, which is surrounded on all sides by other properties. We quickly realised that a large extension straight onto the back of the building would impact both them and their neighbours, so the idea of a garden office was born. The single storey structure has large areas of glazing to open the office environment to the garden while allowing privacy. A distinctly modern palette of materials was chosen to contrast the red brick surrounds using timber cladding, powder coated steel and render.
